So reviews are inherently biased to be negative because people who have bad experiences are generally more inclined to voice their concerns over people that have good experiences. That said, I've been to Ivy during the day time where I've had the food and drinks and thought that it was a cool spot and not too expensive or anything negative. I've also been at night time plenty of times and never really had any complaints other than that it can get a bit crowded especially when Northbeach closes and people make their way into there to extend/close out the night. I also want to preface this by saying that I'm a bigger guy (think Offensive Lineman) who has bounced at bars in Baltimore in the past plenty of times. I've experienced situations where people like to escalate things but as a bouncer you're suppose to be able to diffuse the situation so that you can remove the individual from the property so that the owners are not held liable for something a drunken idiot would do. Getting physical is SUPPOSE to be a last resort, ALWAYS. Unfortunately, a lot of my less educated/more meathead co-workers didn't understand that concept, which ultimately is why I quit working in that space. Hostility begets hostility and that mixed with alcohol makes for some really quickly escalated situations that can and will turn violent. With that said, my experience I had with the bouncers at Ivy this past Saturday night was completely unwarranted. It started off as a normal Saturday night at Northbeach where I ultimately made my way to Ivy just before 1am. I get in there and just hang out for a bit and grab a drink. Yes I had been drinking that night, but I was no where near "drunk" or inebriated to the point where action would need to be taken. At some point soon after I was trying to make my way into the restroom. Blocking the door way was a bouncer (smaller guy, maybe 5'9" with longer hair, maybe braids) who told me the bathroom was closed. I looked at him confused for a minute because I was positive that I had seen people going in/coming out of there. So I ask if there's another bathroom and he just shakes his head. I turn and walk away thinking why would the only men's bathroom be closed? As I get back to my spot at the bar, I look back towards the bathroom and see that the bouncer is no longer blocking the door and I see at least two individuals leave the bathroom and one walk in. I get up thinking that it must be open again and head towards it. I reach the door and open it, see that people are just going about their business in there, am about to walk in and all of a sudden the bouncer jumps back inbetween me and the door saying "Why the fuck are you trying to go in here? I told you it was closed." I calmly state that I saw people going in/out of the bathroom and just need to take a piss. Before I could even finish my sentence he just says "You're done!" and proceeds to start pushing me towards the exit. I think to his surprise I did not give any resistence start walking towards the exit and say "Fine, you're gonna kick me out for trying to go to the bathroom." He just replies "You didn't fucking listen to me," while continuing his very overly agressive pushing even though I was complying with his "statement" that I was "done." Mind you this was MAYBE at 1:30am, no where near closing time and I don't even think last call had been announced. As I'm calmly walking towards the exit thinking fine fuck it, another bouncer joins in on the "let's push this guy" party, completely un-warranted. This is 100% NOT okay. You do not treat a patron as a hostile just for wanting to use the bathroom that was very clearly NOT CLOSED. Just because this asshole had it in his mind that he had some type of authority over who can or cannot use the bathroom is ridiculous. Couple with the fact that he immediately jumps to the physical stage of removing me from the bar with literally NO REASON. Had I been a less-level headed and/or differently inebriated individual I could see how this situation would escalate fast. Plus the way that his "buddy" joined in on pushing me out, despite me giving exactly zero resistence, almost seems like they want to instigate violence. To the owners/manager of this place I know you probably contract out the "security" from another business (so that you can have no liablity for their actions) but you need to seriously reconsider the type of image they're giving to your place. Seeing as how my experience with them seems to be less severe that the MULTIPLE other people on here complaining about them should tell you something. I will not be patronizing this place in the near future.

UNSAFE FOR FEMALES AND MALES. In summary, I was attacked by a bouncer at this bar, and two men I know were also attacked by bouncers at this bar. The pretext: I was sober when leaving Ivy the night of the attack. It was almost impossible to get a drink at this bar because the bartenders were drunk. I saw the male bartenders ripping shots while my friend and I waited and waited and waited for drinks. I later saw the female bar tenders doing the same. While people waited forever for drinks, the female bartenders danced on the bar. My background: I've lived in a city for years and am friends with people who are bartenders. I've been to bars and clubs before. I also am a law student and can readily identify unlawful acts of excessive violence, assaults, and criminal behavior. The attack: I went to Ivy over Memorial Day Weekend. When the bar closed, I walked down the ramp, leaving. My friend walked next to me. A bouncer started pushing my friend down the ramp (no idea what possessed him to do that) and another bouncer joined in. They ended up pushing him too hard and he was on the ground. It looked like they were beating him up, so I ran down to try to stop them from this assault. I told the men to stop, that "they were committing a crime by physically attacking this man," to "leave him alone." How on earth can a person leave the club if he is being attacked by two bouncers? Then they started screaming at me, calling me a bitch saying "shut the fuck up" "stupid bitch" "get your bitch ass out of here" "mind your own fucking business" ect. (Please excuse my language). One of the two attackers was threatening me. My boyfriend saw me being accosted by a bouncer and stepped in to protect me, yelling at the man to leave me alone. Then another bouncer came up behind my boyfriend and took him out, putting him in a choke hold. Clearly this bouncer acted rashly, unknowing of the actual situation at hand. Other bouncers rushed to my boyfriend. The bouncer had him in a headlock while another stomped on his back. Others swarmed around my boyfriend so he was completely at their mercy and helpless. Meanwhile, the man who instigated this entire situation by pushing my friend down the ramp for no reason, grabbed me, pushed me, and continued to threaten me and verbally assault me. Even when we were off of the property, my attacker followed me and got in my face, denying that he physically touched me, verbally assaulting me, and threatening me. If it were not for a benevolent man standing in his way, I would not be surprised if this man severely physically injured me. They finally let my boyfriend go and he was screaming at them. He was bleeding through his nose and on multiple other parts of his body. I screamed at the men saying "I want to talk to their manager" and "this is ridiculous." They did not get the manager for me. Instead, they continued to disrespect me, cussed at, and verbally assaulted me with swears and slander. I told them I would write this review on yelp and they laughed in my face. Well here it is guys! The expectation and the law: Bouncers are employed to keep a bar safe, promote nonviolence, and keep the peace. If they find that someone is disorderly, they are supposed to escort that individual out of the bar. No one could ever argue that a bouncer is supposed to instigate an attack, throw someone to the ground, bloody someone, or bruise someone. In fact, in Delaware that type of attack is punishable with prison for up to a year, even if only prosecuted in the third degree. IF THIS HAPPENS TO YOU, KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. I will happily testify on your behalf. The aftermath: called the manager today because I am still upset. He was nice about the incident. Though he was not as apologetic as I would expect, he was professional and said he would speak to the men. The bottom line: THIS PLACE IS DANGEROUS. There are a ton of fantastic, dignified bars on Dewey beach, so please go anywhere else! Especially if you are a lady.

Not a fan of the menu & a little too pricey for the portion sizes. Not able to share most apps But loves sitting at a table in the sand overlooking the bay. Our waitress was also very nice

Sunset view is awesome. And that's about it. Food is over priced. I had the salmon and for $28. Nothing spectacular and nothing special about it. Beer will run about $6 to $7 a bottle. I really wouldn't suggest ever going.

Best meal in Dewey and of course it's famous view. The food was very good and different. My favorite was the snow crab cold app that was recommended by our server. The lobster tempura was different and delicious. Rib eye is larger than you think and was cooked perfectly. I like the little mac app. Need to work on service and cleaning of plates after finished

This place has a lot of potential. That said, maybe we shouldn't have gone on a Thursday night, because it was pretty dead. The quality of music deserved a much better audience. There was a duo consisting of a laptop DJ and a live drummer, who were amazing (they were called Engine #9). Too bad there weren't enough people to dance. I was feeling the beat though. Ivy itself is a nice space. There's a big outdoor "beach" area with sand, but of course, it was closed (presumably due to the town noise ordinance). Drinks were relatively cheap, and there's a big dance floor, and even more seating outside. Maybe worth coming to on a weekend.

The place has potential as a sunset view cocktail bar but the staff has a bit too much attitude. It's just a formerly run down beach bar with a new coat of paint. Drinks are pricey and watered down. They do offer a cheap martini night on Wednesdays. I also found it strange that the bartenders were doing shots along with customers. Don't need to rush back here anytime soon.

Overpriced and pretentious! We had reservations for bottle service for a week. They bailed on the reservation at the last minute and kept us hangin for an hour and half! They never intended to accommodate us! Stay away at all costs!!!

Terrible. I don't know how a place like this stays in business. Slow service which I expected it to be a little slow and wanted to enjoy the view, but this was ridiculous. Meal was terrible and portion sizes small it couldn't even feed a child. No way that was a 22oz ribeye. I guess you are paying for the view. I don't mind paying the price and have, but the food and service must be good and this place failed on both.

Food was good but kitchen service too slow. Waitress was great but plates came two at a time. Won't be open long this way.

If I could leave zero stars I would.... We go to ivy a few times a year for bottle service. Each time our tab is upwards of $1000. Needless to say we are not that group that buys a $50.00 bottle of cheap champaign for 10 people and takes up the VIP section for 2 hrs. We made a reservation for 4 pm the day before, when our party of 10 arrived we were told that there was a mix up and our reservation was not available. After being lied to for over 2 hours, about getting a table, we left and took our money elsewhere. We were promised a comp dinner that never happened. Multiple employees gave us the runaround. The best part was that the entire restaurant and bar area were empty!!!! At best Ivy is pretentious and lack luster but their utter lack of customer service really sealed that last nail in the coffin for us. Never going to go back and ended up having a great evening at whiskey beach down the road. Stay away from Ivy.

We had s lovely dinner on the beach at Ivy. The meals were well prepared and beautifully presented. Out server, Rachel, was pleasant, knowledgable and appropriately attentive. After dinner we finished our wine sitting by the bay watching the sunset. All in all a lovely evening.

Pony tail bartender asked me what I was saying when I was singing the song currently playing. Asked for a bud light and he preceded to curse me out, asking what makes me better than anyone else. Well, clearly they don't care about their clientele, even locals. Obviously they care little about the opinion of any patron. Will not recommend to anyone. Soured me to the whole experience

I am conflicted on the star rating for the Ivy and I hate to give such a low rating considering it is still new. However, this was a dining experience that started out okay but quickly spiraled downhill. While there were some ups (our server Marco tried his darndest to make it better) there were some very obvious and beyond forgivable downs (our server's co-server being the biggest one). So to set the scene-me and 49 of my closest friends decided to hit up Dewey Beach for an annual gathering. Our organizer was lucky enough to get us a group reservation at the Ivy, a surprisingly hip new tapas joint in a very unhip looking building on the Bay side. In case you are not familiar with tapas, that basically means "tiny food". Okay, that may not be the accurate definition but in this case it was definitely tiny food. You choose from a list of 16 items, as many or as few as you would like, ranging from $1.50 to $4.50 each. You can even order the Grand Poobah and get all 16 items for $50.00. In an effort to save time lets do some Pros and Cons of the actual dining experience: PROS: Food was very good, excellent even. Ambience was cool and and the A/C was kickin'-the lighting and the air made me forget for a moment that it was a thousand degrees outside. Marco, our server (of the two we were given), really, really did the best he could and deserved the tip he received. CONS: Originally, they were supposed to put our orders in by table. Instead, it got put in all at once. So, tables that ordered first waited an hour and a half while tables that ordered well after them got what they requested quickly. Some tables got some of their food while others never received it at all. An accident I realize, but at least tell us a mistake was made so it doesn't feel like we were just forgotten. Management could have been quicker to respond to the situation. They knew that a large party was coming in. It wasn't a surprise and if it was an issue of keeping the food fresh and hot, then get your butt in the kitchen and help make that happen. Don't make excuses and at least explain the situation ASAP instead of waiting an hour and a half to let our party know. Biggest con of all... the other server. I highly doubt he has a life of customer service ahead of him. I understand that working in a restaurant can sometimes get a little crazy and things get stressful. However, if you want any semblance of a tip you will not take that out on the customer. None of us were being rude and stayed patient considering one of our party took to drinking a bottle of wine in lew of actual food. But when someone tells you that they have a severe shellfish allergy and cannot have crab placed anywhere near him, I don't think the best response is to throw the food at him, tell him, "F**k you!" and storm off. Outside of being completely unprofessional, you could have killed the man. I realize that the Ivy is new and it is clear they have a lot of growing pains. I hope that they will get past them. Management really needs to step up to the plate to ensure that nothing like that ever happens again. Sadly, we walked away from the Ivy incredibly frustrated and still hungry.

If you've ever been there then you know you cant judge a book by its cover and No one can say it better than the man in front of us in line: "Tapas are small, menu items are okay but the 2 dollar martini and view are worth it." #onpoint

After eating here and reading the Yelp average rating, we thought that it was way too harsh. The comments about an unusual restaurant for Dewey (better food) are fair as are the ones about portion size (small, "small plates"). It is off-the main drag, with a fantastic view of Rehoboth Bay and the evening sunset. Our server was very attentive which was particularly helpful given the small plate fare we opted for. They do, however, have full entrees, which neither of us tried. The drink concoctions were tasty; I would just personally deduct a point or two for only having bottled beer, nothing on draft. The only other slight negative would be that portion sizes were so small on the small plates that many things were not so easy to share but our server was also quite candid about portion sizes up-front. We liked everything we had and it's all artfully presented. The creme brulee was delicious! Overall, one of the best meals (and experiences) we have had in the area. We'll definitely be back!

4 stars for atmosphere,,,,3 for food.... Great concept ... so-so execution.. Got the grand 'poobah' .. (All the 15 tapas)... All came together - so a bit overwhelming and difficult to eat while still fresh. Most did not hit the mark.. Small portion size.

Ivy is not your typical Dewey Beach establishment -- at least from the decor and menu. The restaurant and nightclub, which replaces the former Venus on a Half Shell, looks like it caught a wave up the Atlantic from South Beach. Luckily, it still has a relaxing Dewey attitude. Its bay side location and open space provides for some great inside and outside entertaining. There is a creative small (and I stress the word small) plates menu that offers 16 savory items. The prices range from from $1.50 for a snow crab claw with wasabi cocktail sauce to $4.50 for baby field greens, toasted pine nuts and sundried cherries rolled in rice paper with a Champagne vinaigrette. There is a 'Grand Poohbah Tasting' option to have all 16 dishes for $50. I highly recommend the sea scallop on a scallion rissotto cake with a hoisin-lime glaze ($4.50), the lamp chop with coffee and cocoa and the Kobe beef slider on a toasted brioche bun ($3). The burger pairs very well with the blue cheese and truffle fries ($3). There are a limited number of dessert options but all very good. My favorite was the housemade marshmallow ($2) paired with a chocolate fondue ($2). During my visit the marshmallow was flavored with fresh blueberries. With Dewey's reputation as a drinking town, Ivy of course offers an extensive signature drink menu as well as a full bar service.

Went at the end of the season for Happy Hour on a bad weather day...it was empty so I cannot truly assess the place, but the staff was very nice and the atmosphere was different from any place I have been to in Dewey. Very upscale..and I wasnt afraid of what I was stepping in and the place didnt smell like stale beer, cheap perfume and body odor. I give this place huge props for trying to be different...especially in Dewey...and for reaching out to attract a different group of people to Dewey..Point blank, they held Sunday afternoon events that were marketed to gays and lesbians, and from what I heard, they were very popular and were very MIXED in their demographic, so I think that is great. Hope that they did well enough to try again for a second summer season.

Love the space, and it is a great place to go for an "adult" beverage prior to heading to other places like the Starboard. But everything else, not so much. I'm used to paying $10 for a glass of wine, but $10 for an Evolution Lot 3 are you kidding me? We went in for the second time this past weekend and decided to give the small plates ago. They were OK, but I wasn't blown away. And based on that experience, I would never consider ordering an entree there, especially for the price point that they have. I also felt like it was a little early in the evening for house/club music. Service was good (we sat at the bar). Bottom line, make this a pre-game/calm before the storm kind of stop, then move along. You will break the bank if you try to stay here and drink all night! I do however, still highly recommend their $2 martini nights!! I think that is on Wednesdays.

Haven eaten at this spot for years. Ivy is a new kitchen with tapas. The Tapas are not traditional tapas, they're an asian inspired taken. I had the lamb lollypop (lamb rib), a tuna on a polenta cracker and an arugla roll. The items were innovative and tasty. The portions are not large, for me that's fine, my husband wasn't go happy. At a typical Tapas place in DC you get about 3 times as much food for twice the price (a typical item here was $4). The service at 6:30 on a Tuesday was prompt, but not attentive. My drink order was wrong. The wait staff was ineffective at adjusting the shades when the sun was shining right into the resturant. Yes, the sunset is big at this resturant, which has a nice view, but adjusting the shades so the patrons aren't forced to don their sunglasses would be nice. So, interesting food but not for big eaters. Lovely setting but don't go between 5:30 - 7:30.

So I guess you can say my first experience at the Ivy became tainted the second I was accidentally punched in the face by a rather angry group of females in a cramped bathroom, but even with that aside, based off the rest of the Dewey scene, this place doesn't really seem to fit in, and also attracts an.."interesting" demographic. I'd probably avoid this place moving forward.

Although the food tasted good the overall experience was not. 1 shrimp does not make a tapas portion. All of the portions were ridiculously small. The service was incredibly slow considering that the place was practically empty. The drink specials are expensive and nobody enjoyed them. Overall...not good
